CONVERSATION STARTERS

BEGIN WITH PRAYER

Before we even start a conversation, we have to be in prayer. It is uncomfortable for us to bring up the Gospel, and we need the power of God to help give us boldness, the right words to speak, and responsiveness from the other person. (Acts 4:29-31)

STARTING THE CONVERSATION

To be able to share the Gospel, we first must enter a conversation. Get to know a person and get them talking. A conversation has to be a dialogue, not a monologue. Listen to the other person and understand where they are in life.

BE A GOOD LISTENER

One key to a good conversation is being a good listener. It shows the other person that you care about what they are saying. If we are good listeners to them, they will, in turn, listen to us when we share the Good News with them. We cannot just trample them with the Gospel; instead, we hear them and meet them where they are.

SAMPLE QUESTIONS

"Do you have any spiritual beliefs?"

"Have you ever attended church?"

"What is your perception of Christians?"

"Most people say they believe in God.

What does it mean to believe?"

"What do you think is the purpose in life?"

"If you were to die today,

where would you go?"

"What causes you stress in life?"

"Do you believe in Heaven or Hell?"

BE SENSITIVE

Alongside being a listener, we have to be sensitive to where they are. If they have had issues with church or Christians in the past, they will be more guarded against listening to us share the Gospel. This is something to be sensitive to: every person's situation is different, and each will respond in different ways.
